Year In Review: my Third Year @the #Hottestcollegeinamerica
My third year of college has been the best yet. It might be because I only had about six total weeks of classes over the entire year. It also might be because I got to co-op for two semesters and study abroad in Europe for seven weeks in between. UC has given me the ability to make my college experience more special than anything I could have imagined when entering three years ago. Despite my lack of classroom presence this year, I have learned more than I may have learned over the past two years combined. The international trip to Europe taught me all about international business, different cultures and languages, and handling new and unexpected situations in life. My two co-op rotations at P&G taught me how to strengthen my discipline and work ethic to a point where failure is not an option. I have learned how to deliver results that are both valuable for the company and meaningful for the consumers we serve, and perhaps most importantly, how to run a business (in this case, a brand). My experiences both on and off campus this year have shown me a new side of the world, and I love learning more and more as I continue on this journey of meeting new people, seeing new places, and achieving success in all aspects of life.
After three years of college, I have realized that I am now the "upper-classman" on campus. I have been placed in roles throughout my co-op, student groups, and fraternity that have been focused more on mentoring and coaching other people than ever before. This has been one of the most rewarding parts of my year and has also taught me how to be an effective leader (something that you can never learn enough about!). At my co-op, I am one of the interns that has been through the ropes before, so I often give advice and feedback to other interns who are working at P&G for the first time. Talking with them about their own projects has helped me communicate my thoughts better and also realize where our strengths and opportunities lie. It's been fun working with them and getting to know them throughout the co-op period. Furthermore, I've been in positions within my student groups, such as presidential roles and other managing roles, where I've been able to guide the direction of certain projects and initiatives like never before. I have become, in many instances, the "go-to" person for questions related to certain topics. Rather than asking older students how to do things, I am teaching younger students how to do things, and helping them grow in their experiences as student leaders.
